Child Safety Seat Checks

Officer Jeff SmithOfficer Jeff Smith Provides Child-Safety-Seat Checks

The City of Union Police Department now has a child safety seat certified technician, Officer Jeff Smith. This certification is provided through the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program. Officer Smith attended the extensive 32-hour course in April 2013. The course was taught through a combination of hands-on activities, lectures and discussion of a wide variety of child restraint and vehicle-belt systems. Officer Smith learned about crash dynamics, injury, prevention strategies, child-restraint selection and installation and vehicle occupant protection.

As a certified technician, Officer Smith will put his knowledge to work through a variety of activities, including community presentations and/or child safety seat checks where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance with the proper use of child restraint systems and seat belts. A majority of parents still misuse their child restraints and need help to get it right.

If you would like information or your child restraint seat inspected, please call or email City of Union Public Safety Director Mike Blackwell to make an appointment. Chief Blackwell can be reached at (937) 836-0912 or email.
