Safety Tips!

Car break-ins and burglaries happen in every city across the U.S., and no neighborhood is immune. Most burglaries occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., since that’s a prime time frame where many homes are not occupied. Most car break ins occur late at night or in the early morning hours while residents are sleeping and the risk of getting caught is low. The good news is many of these crimes can be prevented by following a few safety tips:

  • Keep garage doors closed, even when home, to keep criminals out of the garage and prevent intruders from gaining access to an interior house door.
  • Secure all doors and window to prevent entry.
  • Park in well-lighted areas.
  • Visible house numbers, so we can respond in a timely manner
  • Keep all points of entry to your home well-lit. Consider installing motion sensor lights on the rear and sides of your home and position them in out of reach places so they can’t easily be turned off by a would-be thief
  • Keep ladders, garbage cans, building supplies and tools locked up out of view so you don’t provide an intruder with the means to break into your home
  • Don’t hide a spare key near your front door; burglars know all the hiding places. Leave a spare key with a trusted neighbor instead
  • Trim shrubs and trees so they do not provide hiding places for an intruder or hide visibility to windows and doors. Remove tree limbs that could allow someone to climb to an upper-story window or balcony
